TOURS MEXICO WINTER 2020/2021

We are currently looking at doing two limited time tour dates for Mexico, due to Covid.  Air Canada is offering limited time tickets with Covid coverage included in the fare if booked before October 31, 2020 for trips of up to 21 days.  We will be offering 7,10 and 14 night packages for two, three week periods:

November 22nd to Dec 13th

January 10th to January 31st

We have chosen these dates for the best conditions while staying away from the holiday travel traffic.  Please find info from our past seasons tours below and on our website, but understand we will be running a limited selection of only our full 7, 10 and 14 days tours.  We will only be running these if we get enough interest by the end of October for the first set of dates, and before December 15th for the second set.  We have sourced local transportation, as I will not be taking my Canadian truck down this year.  This should aide in keeping a safe low profile along with helping to support local businesses. We will be limiting our number of guests and setting an itinerary that will keep us in as much of a “bubble” as we can for Covid safety.  Please be aware that although there are no current requirements for quarantine to enter Mexico, there are requirements for many countries when you go home.  These requirements can also change at any time.

We have been in contact with our local partners in the area… and Tenancingo has fared fairly well so far through the pandemic. General community activity has been continuing with enhanced safety measures such as hand cleaning stations and masks being used in public areas and markets. Official counts in Mexico have been dropping after an elevated level in early summer. Most of our activities are held out doors when in public… and weather conditions are dry and warm for easy and well ventilated activity.  Our flying sites are not crowded and we have dedicated transport for keeping our “bubble” intact.

Casa del Piloto in partnership with Sea to Sky Paragliding offers you a chance to get off the beaten path and explore amazing small-town Mexico. We base our tours out of Tenancingo de Degollado… just a short distance from Mexico City and the mega flying sites of Valle de Bravo.

We offer small group tours of 7, 10 and 14 night with options to customize flying sites and cultural experiences. If crowded skies and over-run launches and towns aren’t your thing… then our tours may be what you are looking for!  Our sites are unique, with great flying and XC potential, fantastic vistas, great learning and skill growing opportunities and some great guides and locals to help you get everything you want out of your visit.

A broad spectrum of flying sites are offered, with a variety of technical levels to choose from, along with options of flying XC, ridge soaring, kiting and top landing. Several excursions are also within easy flying or driving distance to make for many days of mixed adventures.

Casa is conveniently located just two blocks from the main landing field in Tenancingo… so you can have a great flying day, then be home moments later. Casa is also central for easy retrieve or return via taxi/bus if we choose to go for some big distance. Getting around in the area is both easy and inexpensive. We have also hand-picked several sites within a reasonable driving distance to offer up some amazing variety of flying, adventure and culture.

Each tour is customized based on the group’s skills and tastes, along with taking the weather into account. We have sites that are perfect for a broad spectrum of pilots, and lots of offerings to keep everyone entertained. Casa offers a communal experience, with lots of family meals, after-flying social gathering, even sunset glass-off BBQ’s on launch [when available]. You can also take time to explore on your own and see some of the wonderful local culture and offerings. We have multiple accommodation connections that give you options to upgrade if you so choose… and we are happy and excited to help you plan the best flying vacation you have ever had.

WHAT’S NEW FOR THE SEASON

Casa has gone through some renovations and we are happy to offer new room arrangements to help keep you comfortable in private rooms.  We are sourcing local transportation this year and are running on a limited schedule to help protect everyone from Covid and provide as safe a space as we can for your enjoyment.

COMPETITION DATES:

For Monarca, we have great packages for pre and post-competition.  This competition may or may not occur this year. Consider us for a warm-up or after competition tour. Book early, those surrounding dates book out fast!

We have a tentative local fly-in December 4-6th, with some fun competition-style flying available for the week before and after.

 

CLINIC DATES:

We aim to help you build your skills, no matter your dates… but here are some good guidelines for your skills. These are not exclusive dates, but only a suggestion for maximizing the days suitable for you to fly.

Beginner P1-P2 Lessons – We have start dates in November!  Come learn to fly while on vacation, flying on new Triple 7 gliders and other new gear. Call for more details.

Beginner XC – pick dates prior to mid-December

Intermediate XC – Up until the end of January

Advanced XC – the later, the stronger, through April

Listed in $USD for easy comparisons, but we can invoice you in $CAD, or $MXN to save both of us on exchange and fees, just let us know.

$1350USD – 10 nights / 11 days (in Sun, out Wed)

$1000USD –  7 nights / 8 days (in and out Sunday)

    • $150 USD per night – Custom. Local, road trips & excursions (Less than 7 days)
    • $100 USD per night – Custom. Local Tenancingo flying/tours only (4 sites)
    • $100 USD per night  – Package extensions  (over 7 nights, Casa only)

MEALS

  • Please advise us early and clearly on any dietary issues, allergies and/or restrictions. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we are limited by what we can get locally.
  • Breakfasts consist of a variety of hot and/or cold offerings, varied daily, along with coffee, tea and/or juice. Check out some of our offerings listed on our day-to day tour example.
  • Dinners will be out at local eateries or markets [not included] when we are not having family meals or special BBQ events.
  • Lunches (not included) Will be grabbed where convenient, or may be offered prepared for a fixed price on some days.
  • Casa cocktail (one per day offered at Casa only) is often a hand-made margarita, rum and horchata, gin smashes or some other mixed treat. These are not your usual complimentary cocktails… these (infamous) drinks are hand made by your host and offered in a “grande” size! Beer is always a good option also.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full paragliding kit (wing, harness, reserve, helmet, comfortable backpack)
  • Ankle supportive footwear
  • 2m 144mHz radio
  • Mobile phone with data and roaming (or local SIM card)

 

FURTHER RECOMMENDED 

  • Tracking device (SPOT, DELORME) is handy for safety, if you want to do big XC flights… and preferably be on XCFIND as well.
  •  Travel Insurance (health, cancellation, interruption, baggage, etc) Make sure paragliding (and gear) are covered.
  • extra reserve handle and reserve bag, just in case. Wing patch and line repair items. Don’t let a small, fixable issue make you miss a flying day

CANCELLATIONS

  • More than 45 days prior, full refund minus $50USD service fee
  • 45-30 days prior, 50% refund
  • Less than 30 days, non-refundable
